Tornado Warning, Weather warning,Central Florida
A tornado warning is issued when a tornado is spotted or indicated by radar. This means that a tornado is either on the ground or is very likely to form, and it is an immediate danger to the area warned. When a tornado warning is issued, you should take action immediately to seek shelter.
The best place to shelter from a tornado is in a basement or cellar. If you do not have a basement or cellar, go to the center of the lowest level of your home and hide under a sturdy object, such as a heavy table or mattress. If you are in a mobile home, get out and go to a nearby building or storm shelter.
If you are caught outdoors during a tornado warning, seek shelter in a ditch or culvert. Lie face down with your arms and legs over your head to protect yourself from flying debris.
Here are some additional tips for staying safe during a tornado warning:
Monitor local weather reports and alerts.
Have a plan for where to go and what to do if a tornado warning is issued.
Keep a tornado emergency kit stocked with food, water, and other supplies.
Practice your tornado safety plan with your family and friends.
Remember, a tornado warning is a serious event. Take action immediately to seek shelter if you hear one.
